Alaskan Gourmet Batter had humble beginnings as a fish and chip stand on a tourist boardwalk in the halibut capital of the world, Homer Alaska. The batter we used was a very light and crisp batter that sealed in the delicate flavor of Halibut, Salmon, Cod and other varieties of Alaskan seafood. It was and instant hit with our customers. We had returning customers both tourist and local residents. We even had tourists from England that returned everyday while visiting to Homer! We soon began to receive phone calls from Chefs and cooks all over the United States wanting to buy the recipe.
From this great reception, we developed the idea to produce and market the batter in easy to use take home kits. Another instant success. Our gold packages made great take home gifts for the tourists. They are easy to pack, don't break, no refrigeration required and they are genuine "Made in Alaska" product. Each package was hand packed and sealed for the first two years. We added additional flavors that expanded the use of our batters to a wide variety of foods, meat, poultry, game, vegetables, in addition to fish & seafood. Our volume of sale grew to where more labor, automation, and large batches of ingredients were required.
A decision was made to keep the processing in Alaska. The goal was to develop Alaskan based industry to support, Alaska Seafood, Alaska Grown produce and other Alaskan products. We actively support Veterans Industries, Anchorage Alaska. They provide display stands for our retail outlets and labor for labeling and packaging.
Alaskan Gourmet Batter continues to research new products that provide safe, easy to use products for the home and food industry. We introduced our dry brine for smoking in 2005. We are working on a variety of spices to enhance the flavor of different types of fish and meat our customers are smoking.
